Built in an eagle’s nest in the heart of the Verdon, the village of Trigance overlooks the magnificent Jabron Valley. Certainly, from an altitude of 800 meters build at the heart of Verdon. Its location high up and in the heart of the Verdon Natural Park, it is an ideal starting point for visiting the region and especially for discovering the Verdon Gorges.

Walks and discoveries in Trigance

Trigance is a typical and warm Provencal village. Dominated by the majestic medieval castle, it contains historical treasures and is very pleasant to walk around. From the fresh atmosphere of the small streets to the magnificent views of the Verdon, the historical path created by the commune will take you into a luminous past for the time of a stroll. You will admire among others the old wash-house, the “rue du four”, the village square, very pleasant and shady, the Clock Tower, the old well… Finally, you will reach the “mur de chez Cartier”, a superb 180° view of the Jabron valley.

There is also a botanical path that allows you to discover the flora of the Var high country. You will find the plans of these two paths at the entrance of the village.

If you discover the Verdon with children, then don’t miss the visit of the Sagne museum. This local museum is dedicated to the trades of yesteryear: basketry, wheat, cheese, honey, wool, wood, and ironwork. The visit is free and very enriching for the little ones who can thus imagine the life of a typical Provencal village. The museum also presents pieces of old agricultural equipment used by the inhabitants of Trigance.

On the gastronomy side, a visit to the Moulin de Soleils with its biscuit factory and restaurant. On the road between Trigance and Castellane, a tasting stop is a must and it is not by chance that the taste and quality of these biscuits are exceptional. Indeed, the Moulin de Soleils is one of the last traditional flour mills built in the 19th century. It has already received several times the honors of television reports from major national channels and it is well deserved.

Walks and hikes

Trigance is also an ideal starting point for walking enthusiasts. From easy short hikes on marked trails (PR) to the great walk on the GR 49 which joins the Verdon, there is something for every shoe and every foot!

For example, a wonderful half-day hike that allows you to see the Verdon gorges from an unusual angle is the one that leads to the Rancoumas lookout. Quite physical, but what a reward on arrival!

The Carajuan bridge is also an excellent goal for a stroll. It can be reached in a few hours from the center of the village, and you can return by another path, which allows you to make a loop of three or four hours from Trigance. Finally, after walking to your heart’s content, why not go and admire the majestic view from the Balcony of the Mescla while sipping a cool drink. This exceptional viewpoint along the Corniche Sublime, just ten kilometers from Trigance, allows you to contemplate the famous Brèche Imbert and the emerald river that runs around it from very high up.

The Artuby bridge: admire the view or… bungee jump!

Very close to Trigance, the emblematic Pont de l’Artuby, attracts thrill-seekers as well as souls sensitive to beautiful natural views. A spectacular structure spanning the Artuby River in the Verdon Gorges, it was completed in 1940. Composed of a single arch of 107 meters, it is the highest bridge in Europe for one can bungee jump. 182 meters of pure adrenaline await you if you have the courage. If not, you’ll be content to watch others jump, which is already a thrill in itself!

 

Where to stay in Trigance?

Trigance is an excellent starting point for exploring the Gorges du Verdon. You will find a variety of superb accommodation setting, while enjoying proximity to the most beautiful places of the Verdon.

Of course, the most beautiful place to stay in the village is the Château de Trigance. In the magnificent setting of this 11th century medieval fortress, you will have a dream holiday. In addition feast on tasty plates made from regional products. However this year, the former gourmet restaurant has given way to a wine bar and  has refurbished the entire Château.

Other options include gites and guest rooms, as well as a Logis of France listed hotel, the Vieil Amandier. It is very quiet and has a swimming pool. So pleasant to relax in the summer!
