The lakes in the gorges of Verdon

The Verdon Gorges are famous for their swimming lakes.

Remember that the Verdon covers 170 km before joining the Durance at Vinon Sur Verdon. From its source at Lake Allos it forms a multitude of lakes along its course. The most famous are the Allos, Castillon , Sainte-Croix , Quinson , and Esparron lakes.

Swimming in the Verdon Lakes

The lakes of the Verdon are all suitable for swimming except the lake of Allos with its very cold water. Our various articles describe the most beautiful beaches.

You will also find practical advice on our site such as how to access the beaches. Small lakes can be good alternatives for families with children. Several small lakes such as the Artignosc Lake, are described in our article about the Quinson Lake. Other lakes are reserved for fishing and are not noted for swimming.

Rent a Boat or a Canoe on the Verdon Lakes

You can check live availability and rent a boat on our site *(link on the activity pages “boat, canoeing, rafting, water sports).* The boats for rent are powered by electric motors and non-polluting. The advantage is that these boats can be driven without a licence. Even children can drive them provided they are accompanied by an adult.

Water Skiing in the Verdon Region

The only lake that allows water skiing is the Castillon Lake. Of course you need a motor boat: more information can be found in our article Castillon Lake .
