On the Road to the Verdon Gorge with Your Dog

The journey can feel long for your dog, so preparation is essential. Bring a bowl, fresh water, a leash or long line, and a harness. A long line of around 10 meters is recommended for safe and comfortable movement. This allows your dog to enjoy fresh air freely while staying under control during breaks.

Vacances dans le Verdon avec mon chien

Before departure, protect your dog against parasites like ticks and fleas. These parasites can quickly ruin your holiday and your dog’s comfort. You should also use a repellent collar against sandflies. These insects are common in southern regions and can transmit leishmaniasis.

There are alternative solutions available to protect your dog effectively. We recommend asking your veterinarian for the best option. If you plan water activities, bring a life jacket for your dog. Not all activity providers offer life jackets for animals.

A life jacket helps your dog feel safe and comfortable in the water. It also makes it easier to lift your dog back onto a boat.

Renting a Canoe, Pedal Boat, or Electric Boat: Are Dogs Allowed?

The answer is YES. We offer canoe rentals on Lake Sainte-Croix, pedal boats in the Verdon Gorge, and electric boats on Lake Esparron. All these activities are accessible with dogs.

Bateau électrique sur Lac Sainte-Croix avec mon chien

If you are not familiar with Lake Esparron, it is smaller than Lake Sainte-Croix but equally beautiful. Its wild, preserved, and unique atmosphere offers a peaceful and magical setting. This lake is less crowded and ideal for visiting with your dog. The small beach of Saint Julien allows animals. Located in one of the many coves around the lake, it is perfect for relaxing. You can picnic, swim, and enjoy the turquoise waters with your dog.

Lake Sainte-Croix is ranked among the top 10 most beautiful dog-friendly lakes in France. However, most public beaches around the lake do not allow dogs. We recommend renting an electric boat or a canoe to explore the lake. This allows you to move away from crowded areas easily. You can find a quiet, wild spot to relax with your dog. It is the perfect way to enjoy the lake together peacefully.

Dogs are not always allowed, even on a leash, in regional parks. Some sensitive areas of the Verdon Regional Natural Park prohibit dogs. These rules protect the environment and ensure visitor safety.

Trails Not Accessible with Dogs:

A word of advice: these trails are prohibited for dogs for good reasons. Some sections are truly dangerous and difficult to navigate. You may encounter ladders or very steep metal staircases.

Some dogs can handle challenging terrain, but risks remain high. We strongly advise respecting these rules for your dog’s safety. Your dog’s well-being should always come first.
