Moreover, don’t forget to come and visit us at the agency. In 2020, our shop is open from 10 am to 7 pm as from May 1st until September 30th. You will find here a small map of the Moustiers center to find us.
3 The Prehistory Museum of the Gorges on a rainy day
Located in Quinson, the prehistory museum offers an immersion in the prehistoric Verdon. The museum, its temporary exhibition, the prehistoric village and finally the visit of the Baume Bonne are worth the detour. The curator has made many efforts to make the visit attractive and fun. Many attractions and small games await children from 6 years old. This prehistory museum is one of the largest in Europe and its visit is ideal to make the most of your rainy day.
4 The woodturning museum in Aiguines
This small museum is worth the detour for several reasons. The extraordinary history of the boxwood pickers is astonishing. 100 years ago, the game of “boules” developed considerably and the balls were made of studded boxwood. Years ago, the last large boxwoods were cut down. The suitable boxwood left was inaccessible. Thus a profession developed: the boxwood pickers climbed down the cliffs to pick the boxwood for the manufacture of the studded balls. The paths they used and the workshops in the cliffs were very impressive. You can find these workshops in the museum as well as the stages of manufacture of the studded balls. Price 3,50€ per adult and 2,50€ per child. You may find further information about opening hours on this site.
5 Rainy day at the Maison des gorges de La Palud Sur Verdon
By visiting the gorges’ house, discover the history of the Sentier Martel (now the Sentier Blanc-Martel).
Learn why the tunnels of the Samson Corridor allow today the discovery of the gorges and what was their original function.
Among the seven activities to occupy a rainy day, a visit to the Maison des Gorges can be a good way to wait for clearing before taking La route des crêtes (the ridge road). Note however that the latter should be avoided in case of a thunderstorm and lightning.
6 The house of the truffle in Aups
How about a gastronomic stop? La Maison de la truffe offers different formulas for both adults and children. The escape game should delight you with games and quizzes to do all together to learn everything about melanosporum. Indeed the famous black truffle has been present in the Verdon for several hundred years. It is in Aups, not far from the lake of Sainte-Croix that you will find a wide choice of restaurants offering black or white truffles depending on the season.
7 The five world spa of the hotel des gorges du Verdon
Indulge yourself with a stopover in this magnificent four-star hotel. Even if you are not a resident, the Spa is accessible from 50 euros for the first treatments.
