Packrafting and Canoeing Adventure in the Verdon Gorges

What is packrafting?

Packrafting is a super lightweight and durable type of canoe that allows you to safely navigate class 3, or even class 4, rapids. It fits into a backpack and weighs between 2.5 kg and 3 kg. It is generally paired with collapsible paddles made of graphite or aluminum.

The advantage of packrafting is that it combines hiking and paddling sections. The Gorges du Verdon are perfectly suited for this type of exploration, as access to the canyon floor is done on foot, allowing you to avoid the more difficult sections.

In the Gorges du Verdon, this activity is practiced with an experienced guide. Here more than anywhere else, you’ll encounter rappels, siphons, and powerful currents: trust me, I speak from many years of experience! And don’t forget: the river changes with water levels, the same section can be easy or extreme during a flood.

The guide knows the river and its rapids inside and out. Depending on your skill level, they’ll be able to take you on an unforgettable adventure.

🟡 4. Canoe Adventure in the Grand Canyon

Moderate level – From age 12

This route explores the final 8 kilometers of the Verdon Grand Canyon, just before reaching Lake Sainte-Croix.
A few small rapids kick things off, then the river gradually calms down. The first 4 kilometers take you through wild and dramatic landscapes. Then, you slowly reach the most iconic stretch of the Gorges.

This tour is ideal for a first sporty packrafting experience, featured in our packraft discovery adventure through the Grand Canyon of Verdon.

🔴 5. The Blanc-Martel Packraft Expedition

Difficult level – From age 14 with prior experience

This route is reserved for adventurous spirits with experience in both canoeing and hiking. It’s one of the most spectacular ways to discover the Verdon Grand Canyon from the water.

You’ll face legendary sections such as Brèche Imbert, La Mescla, and Baumes Frères. Towering cliffs rise more than 400 meters above you, and once you’re in, the first possible exit is 12 km downstream.

You don’t have to be an expert, but you do need to be in good shape: expect both paddling and hiking! This is the heart of our full-day packraft adventure in the Verdon Grand Canyon.

A certified guide is essential due to the numerous rapids and river hazards.

At the end of the day? A one-hour uphill hike, 400 meters of elevation gain… and a well-earned beer at the Refuge de la Maline, with a breathtaking view over the canyon.
